03 What you need first
Nothing. Really.
Everything Rift needs ships inside it. It works on a fresh computer with no extra downloads, and no background helper runs when Rift is closed.

Updates you approve
Rift checks for new versions, verifies the signature, and installs only when you say so. Stable or beta channel.
Portable mode
The portable builds keep every setting in a Data folder beside the app. Carry it on a USB drive.
Clean uninstall
Removing Rift removes its shortcuts, file links and browser bridge, and asks whether to keep your data.
Linux packages
DEB and RPM installs update through your package manager. The AppImage tells you when a new one is out.
